UPSPS partners with global leader
UPS Power Solutions (UPSPS) has broadened its portfolio of world-class products available to customers by announcing a new distribution partnership with global technology leader ABB.
The company is ready to distribute ABB’s single-phase and three-phase UPS products to New Zealand businesses, with a comprehensive range of ABB products already in stock and available.
Speaking from ABB’s 2025 partner conference in Sydney; UPSPS managing director Nicky Blackmore, says that this strategic partnership reflects the evolving nature of power protection and backup power requirements of New Zealand businesses.
“As the country’s leading provider of back-up power solutions, we enjoy an ongoing engagement with the business community across all industries to constantly identify its evolving requirements. Getting the basics right
ABB’s PowerValue UPS range includes a collection of cost-effective devices that are ideally suited to protecting simple and repetitive electronic processes and provides a specific response to local demand.
Though no less critical to business operations, these capable and straightforward solutions are designed to deliver power and process assurance where there is less need for additional functionality such as detailed monitoring, remote access or scalability.
“We uncovered a need for lower-overhead solutions that will ensure business continuity in simple processes and the ABB range capably delivers. Examples such as warehouse door and electronic gate operation, small data and communication cabinets and switchboard controls in industrial environments are critical functions that simply need uninterrupted operation when required, but often don’t require additional integrated functionality,” says UPSPS engineering manager James Clark.
Clark says whether the process is the safe shutdown of sophisticated process automation equipment or making sure staff and deliveries can still enter and exit a site during a power outage, the fundamental deliverable for customers is business continuity and UPSPS is confident that customers will find value in the ABB UPS range.
Also speaking from the company’s Sydney partner conference, ABB’s business manager AU/NZ - power protection, Adam Cockshell, says that UPS Power Solutions is strongly aligned with ABB Power Protection ANZ’s go-to-market strategy, which focuses on building strategic partnerships with skilled, experienced teams that have a proven history in UPS integration.
Globally recognised performance
Beyond the strong foundational capability of the ABB PowerValue solutions, all the high-end functionality expected from an iconic technological leader is also on offer.
ABB’s three phase UPScale UPS range delivers all the advantages of remote control & interrogation, real-time asset and battery monitoring along with UPSPS’s extra filtration to extend lifetime performance and reduce total cost of ownership.
James Clark highlights the versatility, efficiency and small footprint as key advantages of the ABB PowerScale range’s modular design.
“The design architecture of the three-phase UPScale range incorporates the power electronics, static switch and controls into each UPS module. This decentralised parallel architecture (DPA) enables easy scalability along with efficient maintenance and servicing while removing single points of failure,” he says.
As many new UPS devices have grown in size, ABB’s three-phase UPS range is ideal for replacing aged systems where a small footprint is essential.
“Physical space is a critical factor and is especially evident in data centres, manufacturing, process automation and switchboard control systems. It shows that ABB recognises the value of server room and cabinet real estate,” he says.
Nicky Blackmore says that this collaboration is a direct response to the needs of New Zealand businesses and is delighted that the industry-leading service and expertise from UPSPS remains an important factor in power protection decision-making.
“The recent additions to our product portfolio provide options that meet local demand for fit-for-purpose solutions. Our customers rely on our solution design capabilities, maintenance support and lifetime stewardship of the solutions we deploy and it is fantastic to be able to offer power quality products from ABBs portfolio. These services are a critical factor in assured operational continuity for our customers,” she says.
