Award winning, innovative power solutions

Wellington Business Excellence Awards 2019

Winner of Technology & Innovation Award

The 13th Wellington Business Excellence Awards 2019 were presented at a black-tie gala at the stunning Lower Hutt Events Centre ballroom. Businesses from across the region submitted entries for the 12 awards categories with over thirty being selected as finalists.

Finalists are chosen based on excellent business performance and culture along with contribution to communities around the Wellington region.

After qualifying as a finalist for two categories, UPS Power Solutions were selected as the winner of the Technology & Innovation award, sponsored by GNS Science.

Judges noted the exceptionally high calibre of submissions from the other category finalists; Sanpro Industries Ltd, Paysauce and Global Seismic Data NZ Ltd.

Nicky Blackmore, UPS Power Solutions’ General Manager, took to the stage and accepted the award along with her engineering team, highlighting that it’s the people involved in business that are key to delivering excellence.

“Being recognised with this award is a testament to the extremely hard work of our people and the excellent relationships we maintain with our customers and suppliers. We realise that we cannot exist without the support of our customers, suppliers and staff and we treat them all with integrity and professionalism.

“Your customers don’t really care how much you know, until they know how much you care”

Mark Skelly from Red Hot Business Coaching & Consultancy has worked with UPS Power Solutions in a business coaching capacity for several years. He is also President of the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce who hosted the event.

“Having supported UPSPS as their business coach for the last several years, I’m fully aware of Nicky and Graham’s commitment to excellence in business. It shows up in everything they do with customers, suppliers and their team. As Chamber of Commerce President, it was especially pleasing to see this be acknowledged by external judges. They fully deserve their award and it recognises their place as business leaders in their field,” says Skelly.

Nicky Blackmore says the nature of their work is so crucial to important infrastructure such as operating theatres and airport flight-control but it’s an extremely niche area, rarely seen by the public.

“We’ve focussed heavily on delivering excellence in the vital work we do, ensuring that power problems will not disrupt business systems, data or operations. With this award we’re more motivated than ever to keep setting the benchmark for our industry and proving that you can’t go far wrong if you understand people’s challenges and motivations, then work to solve them. Your power is safe in our hands.”
